Saperavi a dry red natural wine, is an extractive wine with a characteristic bouquet, which includes a harmonious taste and pleasant astringency. It is fermented and aged in qvevri following the old Georgian method. Artana Wines located in Kakheti in the village of Artana, is perfectly situated in the place known among Georgian winemakers as one of the best locations for saperavi grapes. Grape harvesting takes place in late September. The grapes are pressed into the qvevri without the stems. The fermentation starts 24 hours after this procedure. The stirring process is a tricky and challenging job. It needs to be done 4-6 times a day.
Saperavi ferments in the qvevri for 3 to 4 weeks until the sugar is completely dissolved. After fermentation, the chacha and grape juice are segregated. The chacha is separated from the liquid with the help of a godori, a cylindrical basket and the juice is placed in a clean qvevri.
Chacha is kept individually. At the end of December, the wine is transferred from one qvevri to another to release it from the remaining sediment. After the transfer, the wine is sealed until spring. The same process is carried out again in the spring. The longer the saperavi is aged in the qvevri, the more vibrant the flavour becomes.

Our dry white wine is made from the kisi grape variety. Kisi vineyards are located in the village of Kistauri, Kakheti. It became almost extinct by the year 2000, as a result of the Soviet preference for Rkatsiteli wine. Fortunately, some 50-60 year old vines still exist in the Telavi district, with more being planted.
Kisis wine reveals more apricot, mango, lime, orange and walnut taste in its bouquet.

This is our dry red natural wine made from tavkveri grapes. Tavkveri is unusual in that it is a female vine and therefore must be interplanted with hermaphroditic or male vines to pollinate. This old Georgian grape variety is from another wine region, Kartli. It is most commonly used in red and rose blends. Using the old traditional method, we did an experiment and fermented this wine in qvevri.
Tavkveri wine is light and easy-going, with floral, hibiscus notes and bright red berry flavours like cranberry, cherry and redcurrant on the palate.

This dry white natural wine made from rkatsiteli grapes harvested in our vineyard in the village Artana, Kakheti region. Rkatsiteli is one of the oldest grape varieties in Georgia which dates back to 3000 BC. Grape harvesting takes place in late September. The longer rkatsiteli is aged, the richer its flavour becomes. We bottle wines at different times of the year. Half of the wine is bottled at the beginning of August; the other half is kept in qvevri. This is the old Georgian method of winemaking.
This method of fermentation and macerations gives the wine its amber colour. It has more complexity and texture while rich on flavours. This is a very friendly wine with light tannins
